This Haute Route is the ultimate Haute Route with no crowds and long descents! That’s why it’s called the Skier’s Haute Route, with up to 1800m descents, linking two of the greatest free-riding meccas: Andermatt and Engelberg.

Day 1: Our tour starts in Realp and climbs 1000m to the Albert-Heim Hütte, a little Swiss mountain hut sitting on top of a rocky outcrop and surrounded by the Chli Blienenhorn, the Galenstock, the Tiefenstock, the Winterstock and our following day’s objective: the Lochberg. We will review the use of the avalanche rescue gear you will be carrying. Stats: 1000m ascent

Day 2: The day starts with short descent. Cheers to that! The ascent to the Lochberg is gradual and finishes with climbing up a gentle ridge to the summit. The 1200m long and steep descent to the Goscheneralp is magical in and of itself but the surrounding glaciers make it even more memorable. A little sting in the tail of an ascent to the Chelenalphütte will earn you a well deserved beer at the Chelenalphütte.  Stats: 1300m ascent and descent

Day 3: A steep ascent takes us up to the highest peak of the tour: the Sustenhorn (3505m). With the highest peak comes a long 1650m descent to Steingletscher – a stunning alpine pasture below the Sustenpass. Stats: 1250m ascent, 1650m descent

Day 4: It’s already the day before last! We will climb to the well named Fünffingerstock – Five Finger Towers – and descent skiing beautiful and gradual slopes to Chli Sustli. One more little skin will take us to the Sustlihütte, where we can enjoy our last night up in the mountains! Stats: 1400m ascent, 1100m descent

Day 5: A true freerider’s day with only 700m ascent and a magical 1800m descent down from Grassen all the way to Engelberg – one of the longest descents in Central Switzerland no less!
