Off-the-beaten-path quiet getaway in Finhaut, Switzerland
If you love the mountains and want some peace and quiet with beautiful views and amazing access to rock climbing, ski touring and alpine climbing, Finhaut is the place. Finhaut is located on the French/Swiss border. We moved here a few years ago now because we wanted to reconnect to a more pristine mountain, but still be within 30mins of Chamonix or the Valais in Switzerland. This quiet mountain town sits in the sun and faces the beautiful Trient glacier!
In the winter, we can ski tour from our doorstep and ski down to the Emosson dam, which is often referred to as a Norwegian fjord. A quick train ride will get us either to Vallorcine and the Mont Blanc range, or to the Les Marecottes ski resort, which offers amazing lift access ski touring. Finhaut is in a very central location, which makes it easy to get in our van and go hunt for where the best powder is! When the road to the Emosson dam opens in May, conditions are often really good for some late Spring ski touring! There is also ice climbing a short drive away.
In the summertime, we ride our bikes to go sport climbing, but also to climb stunning 10+ pitches long routes in the sun. When it gets too warm, we drive to the Emosson dam, which is the trailhead to the aesthetic Perrons traverse as well to many multi pitch rock climbs.
Finhaut is a well kept secret for all nature lovers who want to a quiet getaway!
